California City Official quits $800K Job
Why would a city official quit a job paying almost 800K per year? Because this is a city where nearly a quarter of the population is in poverty. There was a public uproar. And it was not like these salaries were in line with similar positions in nearby towns either. They were not.
Worse yet, the city commission approved these salaries. I wonder why. I will bet that this information was public and the meeting where the salaries were approved were probably open to the public too. How is it that no one noticed up until now?
The problem is one of time and information overload. Government abuse usually comes about because no one notices. Why is that? People are working and don't have the time. Soem don't care about politics and boring meetings. Well, now you know that this stuff is important.
These officials got what they could get while the getting was good. I assume they broke no rules or laws in order to get these outrageous salaries.
I wonder why a city commission would approve salaries like this. We have a commission exactly for the reason to NOT allow these things. Do we need a commission to watch the commission now?
